Beard Oil vs. Beard Balm - Which is right for your beard?

Beard Oil vs. Beard Balm - Which is right for your beard?

With all of the companies out there selling beard care products, we can sometimes get overwhelmed with information.  It can be confusing.  What product is best for your beard?  Well, let's get into that...

The Basic Similarities and Differences

At the most basic level, Beard Oil and Beard Balm do the same thing - both contain ingredients that nourish and soften your beard hair and facial skin.  The difference becomes apparent when you look at the physical product.  Beard oil is just that - oil.  Beard balm, however, is thick and sometimes solid.  So, is one better than the other?  The answer is "no".  They are both great products that every bearded man should have in his beard care arsenal.  Why both?  Read on...

Beard Oil

Beard oil is a "leave in" conditioner.  That's all it is.  It is not meant for styling or hold.  And that's fine - beard oil is the best thing to come along for your beard since... well... the trash can that you threw your razor into.  Made with different carrier oils and essential oils, you can have a soft, manageable beard that smells amazing.  The ladies love it.  Trust me.

Beard Balm

Beard balm is also a "leave in" conditioner.  But a good balm contains natural bees wax and butters, such as Shea and Cocoa.  The wax and butters add to the conditioning properties, but also offer styling hold.

Can you use them both at the same time?

Yes!  Apply your oil first, and then put a small amount of balm on the "top" of your beard to help hold it in place.  Usually, you should decrease the amount of oil you use when you do this - you don't want an oily mess in your beard from applying too much.

The Short and Sweet of It

And that's it.  It's that simple.  It's hard to screw up when it comes to beard care.  Use one or the other, or use both.  You'll figure out what works best for your beard.  And when you do, your beard will transform from a mess of hair on your face, to a proudly displayed trophy that will make men jealous, and women swoon.

Happy Bearding!
